LDR 203 Building Trust Through Nonverbal Communication & Active Listening Discussion

Overview

Overview:

The purpose of this discussion is to examine how nonverbal communication and active listening contribute to building trust and strengthening relationships within teams. By reflecting on personal experiences and applying leadership communication concepts, you will explore how intentional communication practices can improve collaboration, foster trust, and enhance leadership effectiveness.

Prompt:

Respond to the Applied Reflection and Leadership in Action prompts after reviewing the learning activities and materials from this week.

Applied Reflection:

o Think about a time (personal, academic, or work-related) when nonverbal communication or active listening had a significant impact on trust within a group or relationship.

o What happened in the situation?

o How did nonverbal behaviors or listening skills help build or break trust?

o If you could go back, what would you do differently as a leader or team member?

Leadership in Action:

o Based on the HURIER model and the four elements of trust (sincerity, reliability, competence, care):

o How can you apply these skills to build trust more intentionally in your current or future leadership roles?

o Share one concrete strategy you can practice this week (either online or in person) to strengthen trust through your nonverbal behavior or listening habits.
