Discussion Board Forum 3 GOV

Overview

Discussion Board Forum 3

Purpose

The purpose of this discussion is to examine the key themes the author identifies regarding how military leaders adapt to and are received in civilian workplaces. Such an understanding will enable you to appreciate these realities more fully.

Parameters

For this Discussion Board, you must provide a thread in response to the provided prompt, followed by three (3) replies to your cohorts’ posts. Your initial post must be 350-400 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge by addressing all aspects of the prompt below. In addition to the initial post, you must reply to three (3) of your cohorts' initial posts. Your replies must be 200-250 words long and substantive in content, adding to the discussion the classmate began in their original thread and addressing the “Replies’ Prompt” listed below. Support your initial & reply posts with the Module’s reading and study materials, at least one (1) additional scholarly (i.e., published article, book, etc.) source of your choosing (or personal observation), and utilize a Christian perspective to the conversation through Biblical support (all are required for the post, but not all are required for each individual point). Your thread and three replies must be written in the current APA formatting (to include proper citations and reference section at the bottom of the post and replies).

Prompt

Culture is a valuable aspect of an organization. When leadership recognizes where a team is in need and how it responds to the internal and external environment, the leader can establish the required leadership style. That team can then focus on the direction and garner motivation through healthier working relationships.

Moreover, this Discussion Post is an excellent tool to enhance your comprehension, integrate your faith, build your information for your Capstone Writing due in Module/Week 7, and hone your collaboration skills for the future.

After you read Chapter 5, “Findings,” from Cultivation of Instantaneous Leaders: A Phenomenological Study of Military Leaders’ Cultural Acceptance in Civilian Organizations by Timothy M. White and experience of the other Module’s reading and study materials, reflect upon it and then prepare your post, including all of the following:

  • What are the most significant results presented in this chapter regarding leadership identity, communication method, and cultural adjustment?
  • Which themes or patterns stood out most to you, and why do you think they are important regarding understanding leadership effectiveness across these different cultures?
  • What lessons can civilian organizations learn about integrating leaders from military backgrounds?

Use specific ideas and terminology from the Module’s reading and study materials to support your analysis. Rather than summarizing every section, focus on analyzing it. Your response must demonstrate critical thinking and engagement with the readings’ conceptual framework. As always, add a Christian perspective to the conversation with Biblical support, and strengthen your argument further by including an additional scholarly source of your choosing.

Replies’ Prompt

When replying to your cohorts’ original posts, develop substantive responses that engage with their ideas. Further collaboration on your ideas will deepen your understanding of different perspectives and enrich the overall discussion. Address all of the following in your replies:

  • Discuss a commonality between your and your cohorts’ positions.
  • Discuss a difference between your and your cohorts’ positions.
  • Your replies must be written in the current APA formatting (to include proper citations and reference section at the bottom of each reply).

Module 3 Introduction:

Finding the Patterns in the Differences

In this module, you will examine the key themes and identifiers surrounding how military leaders adapt to the civilian environment. Further, you will reflect upon how such military leaders are received within civilian workplaces.
