Week 2 Discussion
Introduction This week you are comparing the connection between leadership theories and models. Next, watch the required Fiedler's Contingency Leadership Theory video for an overview of contingency leadership. Review Chapter 4 of Lussier & Aucha's text. The authors discuss contingency leadership but provide insight into other theories/models like path-goal and normative. As you probably noted, this is not an exhausting list of leadership styles. Fiedler's Contingency Leadership Theory was one of the earlier perspectives on leadership and argues that there is not one perfect leadership style for all situations but instead is impacted by behaviors of leader, follower, and situation. These ideas have led to the creation of the Leadership Model becoming the approach when applying theories to situations.
Initial Post Instructions For this week's discussion, first identify the difference between a theory and a model. Do you agree with Fiedler's assessment that people have a dominate style and cannot change? Finally, choose the contingency theory and model that is your dominate style, give specifics and an example.
Secondary Posts Instructions For responses, consider your classmates initial posts and answer the following: Compare and contrast your perspective and your peers' assessment of differences between model and theory. Do you believe that managers and leadership have different approaches? Do you believe the "boss" today is using boss or subordinate-centered leadership?Be specific.
Writing Requirements In addition to one initial post, respond to at least two peers. Initial Post Length: minimum of 350 words Secondary Post Length: minimum of 200 words per post Use APA format for in-text citations and list of references. Must include at minimum 1 scholarly references that is not the textbook.
Tips for Success At the start of our course, it is critical to focus on expectations listed. The minimum at the graduate level will earn an 80% score. An A represents complex analysis and demonstration of understanding. Courses are very fast paced and require strong time management skills. Finally, restating readings does not achieve the goal. Instead, you must include scholarly references to illustrate this next level of learning.
