Overview
Management theorist John Kotter wrote an article in this module on the Survive & Thrive Channels.

The article's content includes these thought provoking questions about leadership during change:
What if great leaders have Thrive channels that are stronger than the rest of us? That is, what if they become significant leaders not because they have overpowering charisma but because they have a Thrive channel that simply can become activated much easier and faster and stronger than the human norm? Or what if somewhere they learned how to activate the Thrive side much more easily and powerfully than is the norm?
To successfully complete Assignment 2, students will submit an Opinion Paper. Students will identify a leader who exhibits "thriving" while leading his or her organization. Describe the leader and the organization represented. Consider including explanations for:
- How was the person's" resilience" developed? Share something about the leader's background that may play a role in the leader's "thrive" outlook.
- In what ways does the leader focus on "opportunities"?
- Share how the leader "aggressively activates the thrive channel."
- Describe a policy or procedure the organization had that exhibited "survive" mentality, and how the leader moved the organization toward "thrive" mentality.
- Share an example of how the leader illustrates optimism during experienced change.
Successful written submissions will be approximately 2 pages in length, and include specific examples of how a leader effectively implements a "thriving" mentality for an organization. It may be possible the only reference/citation in a student's submission is the Kotter article on Survive-and-Thrive Channels. However students are welcome to include more sources. Still, a successful submission is an opinion piece and can be written in a first person perspective.
