Overview
For this assignment, students should read the textbook section on Team-Building. This content begins in Chapter 10, under section 10-4.
- Students will complete the Team-Building Checklist in the textbook Ch. 10, in Table 10.1.
- To complete this checklist, students must recall a team they have previously been part of, or are currently participating in. This team or group you have been (or currently are) is considered your "Work Unit" for the purposes of this checklist. It is best to use an example of a group, team, or unit where you served in a managerial capacity of some sort. Perhaps you role was shift supervisor, dept. manager, team captain, club president, etc... Be sure to answer all the checklist questions with the same team experience in mind.
- The Table 10.1 includes 14 questions in Section I, and 14 questions in section II. Read all statements, identifying the number of statements you believe are accurate about your work unit.
Read textbook sections 10-4a, 10-4b, 10-4c, 10-4d, 10-4e, and 10-4f.
Prepare a brief presentation reflecting on your completed checklist and the type of Intervention most likely appropriate for the Leader's Influence to be effective. No audio and video recording is required for this assignment.
Students do not need to submit an APA paper for this assignment. Instead, address each of these questions in your brief presentation.
- Name and explain the organizational team or group you had in mind while completing the checklist. What was your involvement with this "work unit" and why did you choose to use it for this assignment? (20 points)
- Report how many statements you answered yes to on Section I. Which statements stand out as definite yeses? What do these suggest should be done relative to team building? (20 points)
- Report how many statements you answered yes to on Section II. What do these statements suggest should be taken into consideration about the leader's readiness for team building? (20 points)
- Choose the best Intervention type from Table 10.2 and Chapter reading sections 10-4b, 10-4c, and/or 10-4d. Explain how the Intervention type will improve the organization. (20 points)
- Conclude with the role of the leader to strategically influence change. How can the leader's influence affect change? How can the leader's influence strategically improve the team building outcomes? (20 points)
