Overview
Please select a policy area (besides education and homeland security which are covered at length in the coursebook) that has intergovernmental dimensions, and write a 4-5 double-spaced paper which examines: 1) the substance and basis of the policy; 2) what primary federal, state, and local actors are involved in designing and implementing the policy including relevant agencies and interest groups; 3) how the policy is implemented across levels of government in terms of collaborative networks, managerial strategies, etc.; and 4) challenges in the policy from the standpoint of intergovernmental coordination.
This essay meets course learning objective 2: Demonstrate an understanding of the nature of public, private, and nonprofit organizations and how they interrelate, course learning objective 3: Demonstrate an understanding of changes in the federal system and the bearing of these changes on state and local government, and the private and nonprofit sectors, and course learning objective 4: Demonstrate an understanding of how policy is formed and implemented in a federal system.
