Overview
The purpose of this assignment is to encourage you to reflect on your own ethical guidelines. Giving critical thought to what you do and do not consider to be ethical as well as why you believe this will provide a good basis for learning more about ethics. This assignment also serves to help you act in ways that you feel are ethical. This may be the first time that you’ve given explicit consideration to your code of ethics, and outlining it clearly may help to give you a better idea of what your own ethics are. In 700-1000 words, respond to the writing prompt by addressing the following:
- Describe your personal code of ethics. What behaviors do you consider to be (un(ethical in one’s personal life?
- What behaviors do you consider to be unethical in business? What are some situations where you would feel compelled to “do the right thing”?
- Next, consider and describe the origins of your code of ethics and ethical decision making. Ask yourself why you feel those behaviors are (un)ethical. Maybe you learned these standards from your family, your faith, people you look up to, or certain personal values.
- Finally, consider and describe how your code of ethics translates to the business environment. Is it applicable to business? Is it appropriate to use these influences and values to guide decision making in business? Is it appropriate to expect others to behave in these ways?
