Discussion 8: ALDI Private Label Brand & AI — ORIGINAL Post by Thursday at 11:59pm. RESPONSE post to 2 due by Friday
For this assignment, you are playing the role of a Marketing Manager for Aldi, a growing low-price, no frills grocery store. You've been asked to pitch a private-label strategy to your company's executives, shifting from it's current "private-brand" strategy. The difference? The private brand strategy has allowed Aldi to source many of its food products from food manufacturers under various private brand names (e.g. Millville cereal brands, Happy Farms dairy products, Simply Nature health snacks, etc.). A singular private-label brand strategy, which you are being tasked to come up with, unifies the majority of their Aldi food products under a single private label brand name (e.g. Millville cereal, Millville dairy, Millville health snacks, etc.).

Here is your assignment: 1) Come up with a brand name for the company's new private label brand that you will pitch to your executive leadership team 2) Utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create a brand logo to accompany your brand name. Instructions on using AI are provided below. 3) Create your original discussion post by sharing the following details:
- Share your proposed private label brand name
- Attach your photo (that was created by AI) to your discussion post - it doesn't need to be perfect (it probably won't be!)
- Share what prompt you used when asking AI to create your brand logo. We want to understand what details you provided.
- Finally, what do you see as a benefit and as a potential watch-out/issue with going from a private brands strategy to a singular private-label strategy?
Don't forget to comment on two other posts - share your reaction to the benefits or issues they have with a singular private label strategy and/or examine what prompt they used to generate their image and share what you think could have made it better or different (and why).
How to create an AI image:
Step 1: Go to https://copilot.microsoft.com/Links to an external site. - Copilot is Microsoft's AI tool (powered by ChatGPT and DALL·E). It is free to use, and also offers a paid version. For this assignment, please do NOT sign up for premium version- it's not needed for this class.
Step 2: Sign in/sign up (for free) - As a UNCG student, you should be able to sign in using your UNCG credentials... Otherwise, it's free to create an account by clicking "Sign in" in the upper right corner of the Copilot website. When the sign in screen appears, underneath where you would sign in, there is a link for creating an account.
Step 3: Once you are signed in, create your prompt and enter it in the section at the bottom that looks like a chat box and says "Ask me anything". Once you enter and submit your prompt, it may take 30-60 seconds to generate a result/image.
Step 4: Select one picture as your example to attach to your discussion post. Please note that AI image creation isn't perfect and you'll often get misspelled words. That is ok for this assignment! We're not aiming for a perfect picture.
What is a prompt? A prompt is simply your instructions that you are asking the AI do complete. For this assignment, you will probably want to use a prompt that starts with "Create an image of..." or "Create a picture of...". Be as descriptive as possible when creating your prompt. The more specific you are, the closer the end result(s) will be. If your request is vague, expect the results to be poor.z
You are allowed to use other AI image generation tools, instead of Copilot, if you prefer. Twitter/X offers Grok as an AI image generation tool as one different option.
