Overview
Introduction: Two Weeks' Notice?
Employee separations must be managed strategically as it involves giving up valuable organizational assets. We want to ensure that we retain our most valuable and productive employees, while being willing to let go of those that are not contributing to our strategic objectives.
Scenario: Voluntary Resignation (High-Performer):A high-performing employee gives you two weeks’ notice that they are leaving to take a better opportunity at one of your competitor firms. What steps could you take before, during, and after their departure to mitigate the loss of knowledge and potentially benefit from their experience in the future? How does the practice of giving two weeks' notice impact the process?
To prepare for this discussion, watch the videos - It's Time to End Two Weeks' Notice.
Additionally, be sure to read Chapters 10 and 13 in your course textbook.
