The first step of Project 2 is to collect data!
Once the final survey instrument is complete, I will share with all of you the Qualtrics hyperlink for the classwide survey instrument.
TEST LINK - DO NOT USE FOR DATA COLLECTION - USE ONLY TO PREVIEW THE SURVEY!
To TEST the survey yourself, you can view this link (DO NOT use this link for data collection, this is only for testing purposes; responses collected through this link will eventually be deleted!): PREVIEW LINK (use this to INSPECT the survey yourself, NOT for collecting data from other people):

READY TO COLLECT DATA?
FIRST, YOU MUST CUSTOMIZE YOUR DATA COLLECTION LINK:
- You need to adjust the survey link so that it will track your data collection efforts. It is easy to do. At the end of the link, simply switch it so that the first letter of your last name and last 3 digits of your REDID are at the end of the hyperlink. For example, since the first letter of my last name is "B" and the last 3 digits of my REDID are "166" my custom hyperlink looks like this:
- Update this link so you can begin to collect data:
https://sdsu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bwuwZ13...XXXX - Remember, you MUST change the "XXXX" at the end of YOUR hyperlink following the instructions above ... otherwise I can't track your data collection efforts & you'll get a 0 for this assignment!
YOUR TASK:
Collect TEN VALID, completed survey responses. You will need to try to collect more than 10, though.
Since we can only be sure a response is complete and valid once we process it after the fact, this means you'll probably need to collect somewhere between 20 to 25 responses to ensure you secure enough valid responses (some responses will be deleted for quality control reasons). You will only receive credit if you use a properly set tracking link, as explained above.
TIP: In past years, only about 30 to 40% of initially collected data passes all quality control checks!
However, every single student who has collected 25 or more responses have achieved the requirement of securing 10 valid, complete responses. So if I were you I'd aim for that number!
Data collection rules:
- Do not collect responses from people taking MKTG470. DON'T DO IT.
- Do not collect responses of students in other SDSU classes by way of e-mail blasts, class message boards, etc. I am aware you've probably seen this happen before. DON'T DO IT unless you have received explicit permission from the instructor of that course.
- I strongly encourage you, if appropriate, to gather responses from people who aren't from SDSU and who aren't 18 to 24 years old. Older friends, family, and colleagues are usually a great set of people to reach out to!
- You CAN get help from people outside of this class to help you collect data. This is okay! You are welcome to use friends and family to help you acquire completed survey responses. In fact, sometimes the most successful data collection efforts are when students solicit assistance from friends at other universities or family members who are in positions where they can request people take the survey.*
*I am aware not all students have a network of friends or family to facilitate this type of data collection. That is why the required level of data collection is set at a level that does not require these sources of extra support. - I perform data quality verification checks on all of the collected data. I use industry-standard tools to check for evidence of "ballot stuffing", people faking survey responses, and other forms of purposeful data collection manipulation. Please engage in this data collection effort with honesty and integrity. Faking data is a violation of academic honesty.
- I do give a small extra credit boost to the three students who generate the most valid, complete, high quality responses.
YOUR SUBMISSION IN CANVAS:
Once you have COMPLETED your data collection efforts, post your CUSTOMIZED hyperlink into the Website URL box.
INDIVDUAL ASSIGNMENT:
This is an individual assignment. Even if you're working with a group, this portion of the project is an individual task.
