Overview
>Your internship reflection report may be a 4-5 page written document or a 6-10 slide presentation deck with video. The goal of the reflection is to provide a “case” discussion regarding what you did at your internship in terms of positively highlighting the skills and competencies you developed. Relate the ideas and content you provide back to your learning contract.
For example, in your presentation you should discuss/show how you applied the fundamentals of marketing and sales, and leveraged consumer behavior theory, during your internship. Give examples of how you effectively communicated and employed digital/information technology, and how you pursued critical sales or marketing functions (How you: Used CRM, engaged with others using your awareness of different social styles, conducted cold calls/follow-up calls, processed reports, created and delivered presentations, defined customer/customer personas, identified competitors, pursued omni-channel activities to engage consumers, reported on campaign performance, and interacted with other departments to achieve common goals). Discuss intended outcomes and objectives of activities you pursued. Wherever possible, quantify the activity (e.g., developed three pitch decks, launched four campaigns) or impact/results (e.g., acquired two new clients, increased views by 20%, increased conversion by 5%).
Make the report or deck interesting (e.g., use visuals, interesting examples) so that you may leverage the ideas or content in future job interviews or further development of your personal brand assets. You might organize your content as follows: Introduction, Overview of core areas of focus, Key/important activities and outcomes, and “Best Practices Insights” or “Lessons Learned.”
Example--
Slide 1: Introduction – Who you are (your name, background info, major, your story)
Slide 2: What motivates you, your values, your personality (consider the course assignments)
Slide 3: Industry/ies you are interested in thinking about your future career
Slide 4: Internship overview (overview company and its industry)
Slide 5: Internship job (what you did in specific)/what valuable skills you developed to complement academic skills
Slide 6: Key takeaways from your internship and this course
Slide 7: Why you would be a good candidate for your dream job (elevator pitch)
>Then create a 3-7 minute video regarding your internship experience. Consider using Zoom (web-conferencing software provided by SDSU) for the recording, and make sure your face and any slides your present are clear/visible. Make sure the presentation FLOWS (no abrupt change of content; remember you are telling me a story with this presentation). This video can be used on a personal branding web site to speak to employers or debrief other students considering the internship course.
