Overview
Assignment Purpose
The Tesla Team Project focuses on taking a real-world business, and applying Porters Five Forces Model to evaluate the organization. This project also allows students to work together and share their thoughts and ideas through the analysis process.
Assignment Instructions As a group, apply Porter’s Five Forces as an analysis tool for Tesla, which is a foundational model for evaluating and scanning the environment. Imagine that you and your team have been hired by Tesla as external consultants to evaluate each Force and the potential risk to Tesla. Your deliverable to the Tesla leadership team is a comprehensive paper to be submitted on behalf of your team. Step 1: Start by researching Tesla. You might want to start at their website: • Tesla's website (Links to an external site.)
Step 2: Porter identified these Five Forces that make up the competitive environment, and which can erode profitability, which Tesla takes very seriously. Specifically, evaluate each of the following Forces for Tesla. When evaluating Forces, indicate whether each is moderately or strongly in favor or against Tesla. A force may also be neutral. • for Tesla. • Buyer Power: the strength of customers to drive down Tesla’s prices. • Competitive Rivalry: the strength of competition in Tesla’s industry. • Supplier Power: the ability of suppliers to drive up the prices of parts and supplies • The Threat of Substitution: the extent to which different products and services can be used in place of Tesla. • The Threat of New Entry: the ease with which new competitors can enter the market if they see Tesla making good profits (and then drive Tesla prices down).
Step 3: Conduct research from valid data sources to evaluate each of the Five Forces outlined above, specific to their impact on Tesla. Research each of the Five Forces for Tesla which are outlined by Porter. The following are two examples of what you might find for research on the force of Competitive Rivalry (you may use and cite these two in your paper if you choose). You should seek out a minimum of two sources of information for each force. • Matthew, Kayla. January 11, 2019. “5 Tesla Competitors That May Just Make It” Accessed June 11, 2019. (Links to an external site.) • Welch, David. June 5, 2019. “GM Is Planning Electric Cars That Won't Give Buyers Sticker Shock.” Accessed June 11, 2019. (Links to an external site.)
Step 4: In your paper, summarize the highlights of your research and analysis on each of the Five Forces. As a result of your evaluation, Include three specific recommendations that your consulting team has for Tesla’s Leadership Team to guide their key decisions for the next 12 months.
Step 5: Include a Five Forces diagram (properly cited) in your analysis document.
Step 6: Complete the Tesla Team Project - Team Process Rubric to provide an analysis of yourself and team member contributions to this project. You WILL NOT receive a score for the team project until you submit the Team Process Rubric. Professor can raise or decrease your team score based on the team input
Instructions 1. Download the Team Process Rubric 2. Complete the table at the bottom of the rubric by adding your name and the names of each team member to the top row. 3.
