Overview
This short assignment asks you to compare and contrast how two brands — one B2C (business-to-consumer) and one B2B (business-to-business) — use social media to shape their storytelling, audience engagement, and brand strategy.
Instructions:
- Select two brands:
- One B2C brand (e.g., Nike, Spotify, Glossier)
- One B2B brand (e.g., HubSpot, Salesforce, IBM)
- Examine how each brand uses social media across one or more platforms to communicate its story. Consider tone, audience, content format, and engagement strategy.
- In a 250–500 word comparative analysis, respond to the following:
- How does each brand define and express its story through social content?
- What differences stand out in audience targeting, messaging, or engagement style?
- Which brand do you find more effective in aligning storytelling with its audience’s needs — and why?
Evaluation (5 points total):
- 2 points: Demonstrates clear understanding of B2C vs. B2B brand dynamics
- 2 points: Provides thoughtful comparative insights supported by concrete examples
- 1 point: Writing is clear, well-organized, and within the word range
Submission: Upload your response as a Word document or PDF via the Sakai “Assignments” tab.
Tip:
Aim to highlight why these strategic differences exist. For instance, a B2C brand might emphasize emotion and lifestyle, while a B2B brand might focus on expertise and trust — both telling compelling stories in their own ways.
