Overview
I'm working on a mathematics multi-part question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.
Choose one of the two questions to answer. Be sure to include the question number at the beginning of the post, so we know which question you are answering. Please give explanation to your answer.
1. Sketch a qualitative graph - a graph without scales or details, that shows the relationship between a man's age and his height from birth to adulthood.
(a) What is the label for the horizontal axis? (age or height)? What is the label for the vertical axis? Explain your choice.
(b) What is the shape of your graph? (curving up, down or flat?) Why is that a reasonable representation of the height as the man ages?
2. Sketch a graph representing the time it takes to drive from Macomb to Chicago, (a distance of about 240 miles) and the average driving speed.
(a) If you drive faster, it would take shorter time to finish the trip, and vise versa. How is this reflected in the shape of the graph?
(b) What happens to the graph near the vertical axis? Does your graph crosses (or touches) the vertical axis? Why or why not?
