Overview
CPT?209 Project ? SUBMIT ALL REQUIRED DOCUMENTS TO THE DROPBOX IN D2L
ASSIGNMENT/REQUIREMENTS:
Select 1 of the 3 scenarios given below. Create a COMPLETE ‘parts list’ (shopping cart/wish list) that will
solve your customer(s) need(s). You can use any vendor (ex – Amazon.com, Newegg.com,
TigerDirect.com, etc.), but your figures MUST include shipping + tax cost(s). You cannot just purchase a
single pre-built computer or device. Doing so will result in an immediate 50-point deduction from your
grade.
You can either print your project as a .pdf file (CutePDF Writer is an excellent FREE .pdf printer—it
installs a printer that creates electronic. pdf’s http://www.cutepdf.com/Products/CutePDF/writer.asp)
or submit a SINGLE Microsoft WORD document.
Please provide a SUMMARY on the logic behind your purchasing decisions. (DO THIS… it’s worth 20% of
the PROJECT grade.) This summary MUST mention (at MINIMUM) your decisions for the following
components: power supply, motherboard, processor, and RAM.
This project should look professionally assembled with proper grammar and syntax.
As a side note... I personally use tomshardware.com to research ALL my CPU and graphics card
upgrades.
NOTE: Each scenario has a different difficulty level and will be graded according to that scale. (ex ? The
easier the scenario the more meticulous the grading will be.)
CHOOSE WISELY

Scenario I -- Difficulty: EASY | Grading: HARD
Your best friend Mike is coming home after a one-year deployment and wants you to build him a gaming
machine that will play Borderlands 3 at ‘Max’ settings.
He needs everything (monitor, keyboard, headset, etc.) from the ground up. He has a budget of $2,000
and wants an ENTIRE gaming experience.
Personal Note: Mike has told several of his unit members about your ‘computer skills’.

Scenario 2 -- Difficulty: HARD | Grading: EASY
Grandma’s HP computer is dead. You have determined the cost of replacing this ‘ancient beast’ would
be a few hundred dollars in used parts. After consulting with her, she has decided to have you build a
‘better’ (more reliable) computer. She has a keyboard, mouse, speakers, and a new monitor your cousin
got her last Christmas. She will only need the computer itself and only has a $250 budget.
You do not need to buy the OS as you will use the Windows Vista license from Grandma's old machine.
Personal Note: Grandma only uses the computer to check Facebook photos of the grandkids and
research Bible verses for her prayer group.

Scenario 3 -- Difficulty: MED | Grading: MED
You are working for a software development company that has just hired Danielle??an ‘expert’ in Web?
Application development. She is a very ‘sought after’ professional and your boss wants to make sure
that Danielle has a new ‘custom’ computer that will be ‘fast’.
Oh and your boss says that budget is tight so keep it under $1,200 or else… ‘You’re fired!’. Have a nice
day! ?
