- In what ways do you build culture in your classroom? Explain your reasoning connected to what you know about your students.
Respond to the posts of at least two classmates. In this open-ended discussion, designed to generate a free flow of ideas, no APA citations are required.
Assignment 2 5153
Misuse of Data Can Be Criminal
Submit the assignment by 11:59 PM PT Sunday of Module 4.
Global information shrinks distance. Our global connectedness makes us more aware of what happens across the world and just down the street. As a result, crime statistics are shaping our cultural perspective.
In this assignment, you will locate and analyze crime statistics for four major cities, evaluate bias and extraneous variables, and create and evaluate crime statistics for three fictional cities. You will create a lesson plan using these fictional cities’ data to draw conclusions about the culture.
Step 1 Create a Word document. Add an APA-formatted title page and space for an introduction for your assignment. You can write the introduction later.
Step 2 Locate crime statistics for a large city in your state and three other major cities around the world.
Create a table to present this information and add it to your Word document.
You can include categories like:
- Types of crimes
- Time of day the crimes occur
- Neighborhood in the city where crimes occur
- Other demographics
Step 3 Analyze the data by identifying at least three factors crossing the four cities.
Address the following questions:
- How do these factors play into the interpretation of information?
- How do bias and extraneous variables compare to the bias and extraneous variables you discussed in Module 3.
Add your analysis to the Word document.
Step 4 Create crime statistics for three fictional cities along with the related demographic information including gender, education, race, age, and type of crime. Present the information in a similar manner as Step 2. Add this information to your Word document.
Step 5 Download the ACE Lesson Plan Template to use for this assignment. Create a lesson where students could use these fictional cities’ data to draw conclusions about the culture.
Step 6 Write an introduction, compile your work from Steps 2-4, and write a conclusion. In your conclusion, explain how crime statistics could be used to either support or criticize a city’s reputation. Include the lesson plan as an appendix. Use current APA format for all elements.
Step 7
Submit your final document.
