Step 1: Watch the 9:24 YouTube video on the History of Logarithms.
Step 2: Read and respond to the AI-generated reading about the history of Loagarithms on Perusall. I may use your commentary from the readings in class.
This week, at least one comment in your commentary should either (1) connect ideas from the video clip to the AI summary using factual information from the video OR (2) critique the AI summary using factual information from the video.
Complete (3 pts):
- Comments clarify, extend, and connect your personal ideas with those in the text.
- Comments question and critique the text (when appropriate)
- Comments are appropriately detailed, descriptive, connecting at least one idea with specific factual information from the YouTube video to the GenAI summary.
- Example: “I notice that both the YouTube video author and GenAI talk about the geometric derivation of logarithms from points on a line, but the video was able to do so with a worked example from point A to B and integrated historical context."
Developing (2 pts):
- Three comments
- Comments connect to the context of the reading, but do not question, personalize, or extend the text in any meaningful way, or bridge the YouTube video to the GenAI summary.
- Example, “The idea of math equity is so cool! I have never thought of that before."
Minimal (1 pt):
- Fewer than three comments.
- Comments may be unrelated to the contents of the reading.
- Example, “This is a good idea.” (no reference to the subject matter of the reading in this comment!"
Incomplete (0 pts):
- The assignment is missing, and/or, not turned in by the deadline.
- The comments are about the wrong reading assignment.
- The comments AND metadata from the Perusall platform suggest that you generated comments using AI.
