I need help with a math project and I have until tomorrow night.

Overview

This final project is your opportunity to demonstrate a deep and accurate understanding of a key elementary math concept. You will select one topic from the course and create a digital slide presentation that clearly and thoughtfully explains the mathematics behind it.

This is not a lesson plan assignment - your focus is on the math itself: structure, reasoning, models, relationships, and conceptual depth.

Choose one topic from this course or from the list below. The topic or concept you choose must be different than the one you chose in your previous project.

  • Place Value and the Base-10 System
  • Addition and Subtraction Concepts (including number properties and mental math)
  • Multiplication and Division (area models, arrays, and fact relationships)
  • Fractions: Meaning, Models, and Operations
  • Decimals and Percent: Conceptual Connections and Computation
  • Early Algebra: Patterns, Variables, and Expressions
  • Number Theory: Factors, Multiples, and Primes

Format:

  • Create a digital slide deck (e.g., Google Slides, PowerPoint, Canva, etc.) with a minimum of 12 slides.
  • Both a title and references slides are required, and do not count toward your slide total.
  • Speaker notes are required for each slide. This is where you include your explanations of the math concepts you are presenting.
  • Visuals and models must be included to support your explanations.
  • Use math vocabulary appropriately and accurately.
  • Include at least one real-world connection or application.

Presentation Requirements:

  • Definition and scope of the concept.
  • Explanation of core ideas, models, and representations.
  • Worked examples with clear mathematical reasoning.
  • Connections to other math topics or real-world contexts.
  • Common misconceptions and accurate clarifications.
  • Reflection slide: What challenged you, surprised you, or deepened your appreciation.
