WK 7 Thinking About Utilitarianism and Kants Duty Ethics Discussion

Overview

I'm working on a philosophy discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

Thinking about Utilitarianism and Kant's Duty ethics, we can differentiate them by understanding the key concepts. Utilitarianism is interested in consequences; however, its goal is to bring pleasure to large number of people and not for only the individual who is making a decision.

Kantian Duty ethics is focused on means/ intention only. The categorical imperative is an important aspect of Kant's ethics.

Kant is not interested in pleasure; for Kant, an ethically correct action should be done from the sense of duty, and it is not necessary that such action will bring happiness for the person involved. Still, such an action can be ethically correct.

Placing yourself in an ethical situation, which theory for you will be easy to follow?
