Topics: Choose one of the following topics to write your essay on following the instructions above:
- Hume argues that our belief in the law of cause & effect cannot be rationally justified. It comes merely from habit and custom. Is Hume correct about this? Why or why not? Take a position on the question and provide supporting arguments.
- Choose one of the versions of the problem of evil (logical or evidential) and take a position on whether this objection provides good evidence that God does not exist or whether theism (belief in God) provides a good response to the argument. Example: "I am going to argue in this essay that the evidential problem of evil provides sufficient reasons to make unlikely that God exists." Or "This essay is going to maintain that despite the challenges presented from the evidential problem of evil, that the greater good defense provides an adequate response to this version of the problem of evil."
- John Locke's philosophy of government is superior to Marx's philosophy of government or vice versa.
- Choose one of the following positions and argue for its superiority over the other one: (a) ethical objectivism provides a better account of morality than cultural relativism; or (b) cultural relativism provides a better account of morality than ethical objectivism.
