Overview
- THE PROBLEM - NAME YOUR SPECIFIC TOPIC HERE AS A TITLE
- Provide a paragraph that briefly but clearly states and explains the specific CONTEMPORARY MORAL PROBLEM you address in your project.
- This section also should help the viewer understand how this problem affects individuals and/or groups and why this problem is important and pressing.
- YOUR SOLUTION
State and explain in a substantial paragraph what you've chosen as your best solution, providing details on how the solution would work.
- YOUR MORAL PRINCIPLE/APPROACH
State and explain what moral principle or approach you used to say why we morally ought to pursue your solution. This section can be a few sentences long.
PLEASE NOTE: To say we ought to do something makes a more claim, but it doesn’t provide the moral basis for the claim. If you use utilitarianism, state the guiding utilitarian principle. If you say that there are rights involved, state which specific right or rights you’re using. If you use the ethics of care, explain what you mean by having care guide your moral actions. If you use virtue ethics, like Confucius or Aristotle, which specific virtue(s) is relevant here. If you pull from an Indigenous, Buddhist, Muslim, Christian, or other worldview orientation, specify which principle you’re using. (It's not enough to say you're writing from a ___ perspective. You still need to pull from a particular principle from within that tradition.) W.D.Ross presented several duties. One or more of these might be useful. If you're using an Ethics of Care approach, specify what specific care concern is relevant. You might use principles of retributive or distributive justice. The Judith Boss, “Moral Theory" Summary and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights are available BELOW and in this week's module. These can be helpful resources. There are many other moral principles we didn’t touch on this quarter that you could use.
