Overview
I'm working on a philosophy question and need a sample draft to help me learn.
We often interpret the world and behave according to our belief system(s). Our belief systems can be heavily influenced by philosophies established by writers, thinkers, public figures, etc.
Answer according to the following prompt:
- Describe at least three philosophies that made you change how you act or interpret the world.
Here are a couple of examples:
- After surviving his death sentence in 1849, Dostoyevsky pledged never to waste another moment of his life, so he dedicated his life to writing non-stop. Such dedication resulted in some of the most celebrated written works and novels of the 19th century. Following his steps, I also try to waste as little time as possible since contemplating my mortality pushes me to be as active and productive as possible.
- Alan Watts introduced the western world (through radio and television lectures) to Buddhism in the following way: The Buddhist philosophy says that all this universe is one; therefore, we as humans are not a separate entity that lives in the universe but a part of it. This philosophy gives me a sense of belonging and makes me see myself reflected on my peers.
Remember, you do not have to select philosophers or famous thinkers, a public figure or a book author may have influenced how you think. You may use examples from your personal life.
