Overview
These first three questions are ALL required:
1. Many people find cultural relativism to be appealing. However, critics point to serious problems the theory faces. Explain what cultural relativism is, describe what might be appealing about it, and then (in detail) present TWO objections against it (Rachel's cultural differences argument and the consequences of taking cultural relativism seriously). Note: you must include quotes from the reading to earn an A or B on this question.
2. What is the nature and basis of human dignity according to George and Lee? (Include a discussion of the essential and accidental features.). Would a deontologist agree with his theory? Why or why not? (Discuss the humanitarian principle.) Would a utilitarian agree with his theory? Why or why not? (Discuss the principle of utility.) Note: you must include quotes from the reading to earn an A or B on this question.
3. Angela Davis urges us to take a different approach to legal punishment she calls "decarceration". Explain the approach, its motivation (why Davis thinks it's needed) and ONE objection against it. Note: no quotes from the reading are required. And, you come up with your own possible objection here.

4. The debate about whether embryos are persons is ongoing in the U.S. and the world. Explain Steinbock's interest view and George and Lee's objections to this view (embryos are complete, though immature, human beings and persons). Which view did you find more convincing and why?
5. The debate about whether pornography should be illegal to buy or sell is ongoing. Discuss two reasons (one being feminist) why some people argue that pornography should be censored and ONE objection against it. Which view do you find most convincing and why?
