Overview
As we read and discuss these selections from the lyric poetry of Archilochus, Alcaeus, Solon, Sappho and Simonides, the Law Codes of Solon, the philosophies of Thales of Miletus and Anaximenes, and the Fables of Aesop, the crucial point to bear in mind are the authors’ intended audience and how these authors composed their works well aware of the sensibilities of their intended audience. We should think about what the ancients saw in these works that resonated with them, and why we, in the 21st century, are still fascinated with these masterpieces of literature.
For our second essay exam, which is scheduled for this Monday, Sept 25, you should discuss why you believe these works of literature resonated with their target audience, and why you believe they still resonate with audiences in the 21st century. You should site specific examples from the text that effectively support your ideas and conclusions.
Your essay should be between 3-4 pages, 1 ½ line space, font times new roman 12 pt.
