Question: the assignment is for psychotherapy but we use a lot of existential philosophy and other philosophies.

Choose a specific culture that is different from your own. Critically review the literature in relation to the obstacles that might be faced by members of this culture, in gaining access to appropriate support in the context of your professional field ( psychotherapy). Consider what might present a challenge in light of your own beliefs, values, and personal biases in working with a client from this culture, exploring how you would work in an ethical and culturally sensitive way with reference to the wider literature. This is not a case study, but you may wish to support your arguments with reference to your own clients.

1. Non-binary

2. My culture Muslim /Arab background

3. Worked as therapist with gay and trans and I had no problems. But I don't understand and have no knowledge with non-binary people. Worried that due to my lack of knowledge I might offend

Teacher's comments on my choice

1. Basically, get stuck into some of the literature on gender and therapy, focus on defining the groups, and their difficulties accessing services. You might want to focus in on one category of sexuality or identity to make things easier for you, for example, trans or as you said, non-binary. It's up to you. Simplify it as much as possible - less is more!

2. look at any readings by Meg John Barker or Christina Richards.
