Overview
Trump's proposed ideological test for immigrants was short on specifics, although it seemed to entail more than the loyalty statement currently required under U.S.A. naturalization law, which asks for adherence to "the principles of the Constitution." Critics feared that Trump's test (ostensibly designed to identify terrorists) would be used to discriminate against Muslims. But what about a universal ideological test used to weed out dangerous extremists generally?
Would you, for example, think it morally acceptable to use a test for asking all applicants if they approved of (1) suicide bombings against people of other religions, (2) laws severely restricting the rights of women, or (3) making homosexuality a capital crime? Why or why not?
