“The situation, I contend, is the same with God. When we confront seriously the amount of suffering in the world (fawns dying in fires, children struck with painful illness, adults enduring pointless depression) and consider the way it is distributed (afflictions heaped disproportionately on the poor and the vulnerable), I think the rational conclusion to draw is that there is no good reason for it.”
Your assignment is to write a no more than two page (double spaced) exegetical paper explaining what this quote means. This will require you to define terms as they are presented in the reading like suffering and how it is distributed. As this is a purely exegetical project, you do not need to evaluate the truth or falsity of the claim; rather you just need to explain it. This is not a summary. This assignment may require you to reference other passages from the book. I encourage you to make an appointment with me if you have any questions. Below you will find the grading rubric for this paper.
