Week 12 discussion

Overview

This is the book login again. Kobo.com

We start Chapter 5 this week, which Woodward considers to be "the most philosophical or theoretical one in this book." The next two chapters are applications of the notion of invariance and its psychological support. So, it is important to have a solid understanding of this concept.

In your discussions, please address the following issues:

  1. What is invariance, according to Woodward? Why is it important? Try to explain as clearly as you. Give examples or equations when necessary.
  2. There are many kinds of invariance, mentioned in 5.4, in terms of different conditions for invariance. Which kind of invariance do you find most interesting or least interesting? Why so? There are some technical details in Woodward's discussion, and you may ignore them if you can get the main ideas.

You need to respond to at least one other post, and they are due before Saturday night.

I will post the classmate replies after the main post
