The Bristol Bay region of southwest Alaska is home to the largest sockeye salmon fishery in the world. It’s also home to enormous deposits of copper, gold and molybdenum that have been estimated to be worth hundreds of billions of dollars. “Alaska Gold” delved into the complex fight over “Pebble mine,” including what happened when a group of Alaska Native tribes and commercial fishermen in Alaska petitioned the Environmental Protection Agency to intervene.

Discussion: React to the two solutions to the Sisyphus problem. 1) "There is no fate that cannot be surmounted by scorn." You will see the quote when reading. 2) Love of fate (the entire second half of the reading.) Use specific examples both big and small (like how it might help you get through a work day.)
I've always thought Ginsberg's Ballad of the American Skeletons was a great example of how the first solution could be done in a nuanced way -- he takes to task a sweeping array of current ethical problems. So many of these problems are so hulking in nature that scorn might be the best we can do -- at least for awhile.
The second solution goes back to the Roman idea "amor fati" love of fate, the better solution, but not always attainable.
Think about how both of these solutions are perfectly fit for the difficulties encountered in the contemporary world. Allen Ginsberg & Paul McCartney: Ballad of the Skeletons
