Article Link - charleston-ame-church-shooting
- This week I chose to read about The Mother Emmanuel Church Shooting that took place back in 2015. This shooting took the lives of 9 people. This really stood out to me this week because it was a hate crime and I hate how it was a targeted act of hate towards African American people , Basically the shooter came into a church and decided to take the lives of innocent people that were just trying to worship.
- How does someone have it in their heart to take the life of another human being? This is truly a question that I ask because it is very sad seeing the way violence is increasing. When I was reading the article, the shooter even admitted before committing the crime that he was obviously targeting African Americans.
- I disagree with the fact that whoever wrote the article tried to make it seem like this wasn’t a hate crime when it’s clearly obvious that's what it was. I feel like our community today is just separated and tries to make up excuses for big issues and try to pretend like it never happened.
- If it was something that I would apply to my life from this article it would be to watch your surroundings and watch the people you surround yourself with because you never know if there a positive or negative aspect to your life.
Second Discussion Board Post
- The one idea that I love that was discussed in the meeting was how everyone got to choose a question, topic or something to rant about. This is very positive because it gives everyone a chance to open
and express how they feel about something.
B. I realized how we kind of have a free say so and we get the chance to express how we feel. Before walking into the zoom meeting, I was very uncertain on how it was going to work.
C. The only thing I disagree with is everytime a new person joins everyone had to reintroduce themselves.
D. The one idea that I was able to apply to the real world from the meeting is communication skills .

Don't Fear Failure - This Is How Real Winners Are Made | Motivational Video 2025, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BABcvl5G8QQ
A) I felt somewhat uneasy after watching this film, but I was also inspired and encouraged. The growing message was fantastic, but it also made me angry since it brought back memories of the times I failed in tennis matches.
B) The announcer of the movie stated, "This is where champions are made," as slow-motion footage of athletes missing shots was shown in one section. It got me thinking: can failure produce champions on its own, or does it require the correct attitude to be a learning experience? Is it possible that occasionally failure does more harm than good?
C) The speaker in the video gave the impression that failing is always positive, which was something I didn't agree with. I believe that while failure may teach you valuable things, it can also undermine your confidence if it is not handled properly. The balance between recovering from failure and not allowing it to control you should have been covered in the video, in my opinion.
D) I used the concept from the video in my own tennis practice. When I missed an easy shot or lost a match, I used to become upset, but this video helped me see those situations as chances to sharpen my focus and fortitude. I can now reframe mistakes as a necessary part of the process of improving rather than the end of the road, preventing irritation from taking control.
Second discussion board:
A) Emotional Reaction
Dr. Hall's statement that "philosophy isn't about memorizing answers, it's about learning how to sit with questions" was one that made me feel something. I was both relieved and uneasy about that. Nervousness because it forces me to embrace ambiguity and relief because it relieves the pressure to always have the "right" response.
B) Interpretive Question
Additionally, "every claim is an invitation to ask another question," according to Dr. Hall. I wasn't sure how to react to that. Does this imply that truth is constantly being improved upon or that there is no ultimate truth? Depending on your perspective on knowledge, I believe there are several ways to understand this concept.
C) Intellectual Disagreement
The notion that "class participation is mostly about dialogue" didn't sit well with my mind. Although I agree with his premise, I believe that meaningful writing or silent reflection may also teach and benefit others. Although dialogue is effective, it is not the only way to learn.
D) Application
The admonition to "question what you take for granted" was one concept that I was able to use in my own life. I used to believe that my tennis practice regimens were set in stone. I discovered that I could modify my training and recuperation to enhance performance by asking them questions. It demonstrated to me that the Socratic method is effective not just in the classroom but also in sports and daily life.
