Philosophy Question

Background

This assignment is designed to deepen your understanding of your academic behaviors and emotional experiences throughout your graduate program. By completing a self-assessment questionnaire, you will reflect on your study habits, analyze your academic outcomes, and explore the emotional dimensions of your learning experience. As a behavior analyst, while you will not solely rely on self-report for intervention decisions, understanding the validity of surveys and verbal narratives can offer valuable insights into the learner’s experience. Emotions, conceptualized as indicators of contingencies, along with awareness of thoughts and bodily feelings, help identify situations and patterns that may require change.

During your capstone course, you will engage in the collection of measurable data related to your study and testing behaviors and gain experience in noticing and describing private events associated with the learning process. This will allow you to gain insight into the effectiveness of your study habits, understand the interplay between study skills and emotional health, and develop strategies to enhance your learning, reduce stress, and bolster your academic success. Ultimately, this assignment encourages introspection and informed decision-making to foster both academic and personal growth during your graduate studies.

Instructions

Begin by reading the article by AlFaris et al. (2018), which discusses the impact of study skills on depressive symptoms among students. This reading provides a potential assessment tool for understanding and analyzing your own study habits.

Next, complete the self-assessment of study skills questionnaire from the article for yourself.

Then, write a brief reflection paper, one to two pages in length, not including the title and reference page. Structure your paper as follows:

  • Introduction: Include a paragraph overview of the importance of study skills in relation to mental health, according to the authors.
  • Analysis of Results: Discuss your scores and what they reveal about your current study habits. Which study habits seem most and least effective for you? What are your biggest distractions or obstacles to effective studying?
  • Emotional Experiences: Reflect on how your study skills have influenced your emotional wellbeing throughout your graduate studies. How do you feel about your current quality of life and burnout level? Consider any feelings of stress, anxiety, or satisfaction that may have arisen from your study habits.
  • Improvement Strategies: Consider how your study skills have impacted on your academic performance – for better or worse. Then, outline practical strategies you could employ to improve areas where you scored lower.

Include at least two new scholarly resources (not already assigned in this course) about study skills or test-taking anxiety. Format references according to APA (7th ed.) guidelines.

Length: 1- 2 pages excluding title and reference pages.

References: at least 2 scholarly articles from the library.
