Sample AI Tutor Reflection – The Death of Socrates
Word count: 160
During this module, I used the AI Tutor to help me process the death of Socrates and why it’s considered such a defining moment in philosophy. I didn’t fully grasp the tension between his loyalty to the city and his commitment to truth. I asked the tutor what made Socrates stay instead of escaping, but instead of answering, it asked me, “What would have been the philosophical cost of escape?” That really made me pause.
I realized I had been thinking about it in terms of survival, not integrity. The tutor also helped me rework a paragraph I was writing about civil disobedience. It pointed out that I was blending Socrates and MLK too much and asked, “How are their approaches to justice similar—but also distinct?” That helped me clarify my point.
Using the tutor felt more like a nudge than a lecture. I left the session more confident in my writing and more curious about philosophical courage.
