Currently in the United States, corporal punishment is lawful in both public and private schools in 19 states and is still common in some schools, especially rural schools in the South. In addition, while many counties have outlawed parents spanking their children, there are no laws governing parental use of corporal punishment with their children in the United States (Caron, 2018).
For this Discussion, you will examine corporal punishment and discuss your views on whether there should be greater federal involvement in regulating the use of corporal punishment in schools.
