Writing for Publication
Organizations often require managers to write short articles for newsletters or blog publications. Becoming comfortable writing this style of commentary for a general audience is important in an era in which media can be authored by anyone.

Week 1 Discussion Post
Today’s consumers of media want quick, informative, and exciting information. It can be written in 1st or 3rd person. The focus of your work will be communications ethics (which includes media, advertising, and marketing). Research a controversial scenario/event that happened in the last 2 years and create a 150- to 200-word article that discusses the real-world incident.
This post should be 2 paragraphs (150-200 words). Since you are engaging in research, be sure to cite in the body of the post and add a reference list in APA format. NOTE: Failure to use research with accompanying in-text citations to support content will result in reduced scoring “Level 2-Developing” on the grading rubric.
ALSO, WRITE Week 1 Interactive Responses (THESE WILL BE SENT AFTER INITIAL POST)
1st Interactive Response:
- Select one article and critique it. Ask questions or provide advice that will improve it.
2nd Interactive Response:
- Select another article and critique it. Ask questions or provide advice that will improve it.
Each reply should be one paragraph (or about 75 words) and must be substantive. Do not simply say “I agree” or “That is great.” Specify why and be detailed in your explanation. You may use research in your responses, but it is not required.
