Applied Ethics Power point- Open Topic needs pro approval so please send those over first.

Overview

Applied Ethics

Using the rhetorical tools you have learned in this class so far, choose one controversial topic from the list below and create a slideshow presentation detailing arguments from both sides of the debate. Your slideshow should be 8-10 slides long and include a (1) title slide, (2) description of the topic, (3) explanation of the "pro" arguments, (4) explanation of the "con" arguments, and (5) your conclusion on which side is stronger and why. Be sure to include ALL of these elements in your presentation.

You may use Google SlidesLinks to an external site., PreziLinks to an external site., or Powerpoint to create your slideshow. Feel free to think outside the box and be creative!

Next, you will need to record yourself giving your presentation. The best way to do this is to use screen capture software like Screencast-O-MaticLinks to an external site.. Record yourself on video presenting your slides (make sure that your video does not obstruct any text on the slides) and upload the file into Canvas. Note: Video is a requirement and will additionally serve to identify you as the author of the work. You only need to turn in your presentation file. You do not need to include the original slideshow file.

The following is a sample rubric to give you an idea of what to include. Slide counts are approximate (it's fine to go over if you need, just make sure your slides aren't too cluttered).

TIPS:

  1. Speak clearly and with enough volume.
  2. Take care not to rush. Your final presentation should be around 6-8 minutes.
  3. Avoid simply reading the words on the screen. Your slides should serve as a guide for your verbal presentation. Do not clutter the screen with verbiage but rather elaborate on your points with your discussion. Use notes if necessary.
