PHIL 320: Final Presentation

For your final assignment, you will explore in detail either a theoretical environmental issue or a practical environmental concern.

Incorporate our course materials into your paper as much as possible, including direct quotations with page # in-text citations. Use only the editions of our primary authors provided in our course materials and APUS Library - don't use other editions that you may find elsewhere/online. Other editions will not count as sufficient here for direct quotes and page # in-text citations. For the topics/case studies, you can use other sources in addition to our Sustainability textbook and make sure to provide live URLs to those outside sources! Note: I don't want to see you using AI summaries or borrowing from online papers; do your own research and writing! AI can be used as a study/research tool to help you get started, but your text shouldn't show up as AI generated text. You can check for free with Copilot or sites like Copyleaks or ZeroGPT if you wish.

Directions

Please be sure to see the caution in week six about using AI on this assignment. Do not cheat yourself - do your own work.

For this assignment complete the following steps:

  1. Review any feedback I provided on your Week #6: Paper Proposal as you begin. Make sure to incorporate one of our primary authors into your paper/project. Incorporate the reading(s) from one of our primary authors. So far, we have read Holmes Rolston, Rachel Carson, Aldo Leopold, and Arne Naess. You may also look ahead to Week Six where we cover animal ethics, Peter Singer and Paul Taylor.
  2. Identify an environmental ethics topic that you would like to discuss using our course readings as a starting place.
  3. Locate a case study scenario that exemplifies your chosen topic.
    • You may use a case study from our textbook Sustainability, or other resources. If you choose an established case study, you can summarize it with proper reference, but if there is a relevant section in our Sustainability textbook that should be included in your paper.
  4. Find a short video online, like a YouTube video or TED clip that describes your case study/topic and include that in your initial post, either via a live URL or embedded video.
  5. Create a paper or presentation to share your efforts.
