Overview
An electron is traveling horizontally with speed vx= 40 km/s when it passes into a region of uniform, downward electric field with magnitude E = 950 N/C. The field is generated by two horizontal plates with equal (and opposite) charges that are separated by a distance d = 2.5 mm. When the electron enters this region, it is midway between the two plates. What angle θ does the electron’s velocity vector make with respect to the horizontal when it crashes into one of the plates? For the limits check, investigate what happens to θ as the plates become extremely close together (d →0). Note: the effects of gravity can be neglected in this problem.
