phyc202 project

Project Details

This semester we will be replacing our final exam with a project, covering one of the topics we have seen so far in the class. This project will involve materials you have at home, or available from our lab equipment. The topic can be on anything covered or related to the class; feel free to get creative.

There will be four pieces to this project to eventually be turned in. Those are:

1) Project Proposal

2) Rough Draft

3) Final Draft

4) Visual Media Presentation

Group Size

You can work on the project solo or as a duo. If working as a duo, both partners should submit each assignment, but the same submission can be made for each partner.

Project Proposal

For this first assignment, I am strictly interested in what topic you want to address, and what research question (or model) you are asking (creating) about that topic. Submission is done through text entry underneath. The following rubric does not need to be fully addressed, but it may be helpful to think about the questions and include their details in your proposal.

This proposal is worth 5 of the 50 total points of the project.

Guided Outline

1. Introduction
a. In two or three sentences, explain what the topic of this lab project is.
b. Write down at least one or two equations that will help us mathematically model the physics being investigated. Define all terms in your equations.

2. Methods a. What materials are available for you at home to complete this project? What materials (if any) would you need from the lab hall? b. How will you collect data in this project? Enumerate and describe in detail the steps required to collect data.

3. Uncertainties a. For each type of measurement you will make for this project, how will you estimate the uncertainty? b. Make a guess as to which measurement’s uncertainty will most affect the final outcome of this project.
