University entry-level Cosmology project

Overview

Your project should entail a creative endeavor on a topic related to astronomy or cosmology, whether discussed in class or not. The possibilities for your project are extensive, ranging from developing a website or contributing to Wikipedia, to crafting a song, writing a play, devising a movie synopsis, or creating a video (perhaps a derivation or explanation of a concept to a specific audience) for platforms like YouTube. The key requirement is originality, and each project should involve approximately 20 hours of work per person over a span of 3-4 weeks. Creativity is encouraged, and you're encouraged to integrate your personal passions into your project. For instance, if you have a background in dance, consider submitting a choreographed piece.

Project Details ● The final project cannot be a simple research paper summarizing existing knowledge in astronomy or cosmology. Instead, it should showcase your perspective, have original ideas, and demonstrate your own work clearly. ● Submissions can take various forms, such as a website (including a PDF copy), creative activities (with documentation saved as a PDF), or a video uploaded to YouTube or directly to Canvas. ● Written submissions should comprise approximately 5-10 pages of material, while videos should be around 5-10 minutes in length. However, there are no strict length requirements. Project Ideas (non-exhaustive) ● Create a movie synopsis exploring human space exploration, avoiding plagiarism of existing films. ● Draft a movie script envisioning a hypothetical astronomical discovery in the future. ● Offer an interdisciplinary reflection on cosmological principles discussed in class.

● Craft a fictional short story depicting the discovery of life on another planet.

● Develop a non-fictional play or act recounting the Perseverance rover's experiences on Mars.

● Compose a song on historical cosmological models or any topic in astronomy/cosmology/space. ● Brainstorm an idea for a new TV show focused on astronomy, cosmology, or space exploration. ● Design a children's book on astronomy or cosmology, presenting it visually or through a video.
