Overview
The events of the past two decades – economic disasters, illegal wars of aggression that have gone unpunished, not to mention the ever-growing threat of an all-out nuclear disaster – have clearly revealed that the contemporary global system is in crisis. However, that doesn’t mean it cannot be restored to full health. The intentions of those who laid the foundations of this system in the aftermath of the Second World War (such as John Maynard Keynes or Robert Jackson) was to systematically connect ideas of a stable capitalist economy to that of a just and secure global political order. This system, while not perfect, did work well, especially in the early decades after WWII. So long as the existing international institutions – economic, political, judicial – are reformed, it is possible to recreate the stability and prosperity that characterized global politics in the mid-20th century.

Introduction: ·Opening Statement Something that the 20th century has shown is how delicate our global system is and how easy it is to offset it and place it in a situation of crisis. This state of crisis manifested itself in recent decades as economic disasters for entire areas of the world, illegal wars of aggression done by superpowers such as the US and Russia and an ever-growing threat of an all-out nuclear disaster. Clearly, we see that a situation is taking place but now the question is whether or not restoring the capitalist system to its full health is enough to “fix the world” or should a full-blown revolution of the system take place and overthrow the old system.·Thesis statement - previews my position Many scholars and writers have openly criticized this system by declaring that it has open the doors to exploitation on many levels, corruption by a system that were meant to protect the weak countries, such as the IMF and the WB, and overall, a modern day of imperialism brought forwards by countries such as the US and NATO and the rise in power of Russia.·What is my position on the claim? (Favorable, favorable in part, unfavorable, mixed) In my opinion, the economic and judicial system that was established in the 1950’s was the most appropriate approach that could have been taken in a post-world war setting but of course, this system cannot sustain today’s world. Therefore, I believe that revision of the system is the most appropriate approach towards fixing the larger system. At first, we have to analyze the system that have created this mess and therefore analyze the International Monetary Fund (IMF) organization and the World Bank (WB); additionally look at how the judicial system has failed us through the corruption of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and lastly how the negligence of these two sectors of the world gave space to the rise of superpowers that have established an environment of neo-imperialism such as the USA and Russia.Body 1 – talk about the global system that was established after WWII and connection between idea of stable capitalist economy and a just and secure political order ECONOMIC LEVELThe great war did not only leave Europe and the world as a whole in a situation of confusion and disarray but it even fueled the collapse of the previous economic system leaving the pathway open to the creation of new institutions such as the IMF and the WB. An author that talks about the rise and collapse of these two institutions and globalization is Joseph E. Stiglitz in his book Globalization and its Discontents revisited (anti-globalization in the Era of Trump) At first, the creation of these two institutions was regarded by scholars and world leaders at the time saw the creation of this new type of international aid as outstanding and revolutionary, meant to help countries manage and stabilize economies. (Describe original intentions of both organizations) Later on, in the 1980’s, with the advent of neoliberalism (government in economy is bad) we have leaders of powerful countries, such as Reagan for the USA and Thatcher of UK, pushing their agenda and promoting policies of privatization. The corruption starts and this time it is on a global level. The introduction of fiscal austerity, privatization and liberalization (IMF wanted blind liking of the Washington Consensus)In his book the author uses different countries as examples1. Ethiopia (explain what happened)2. Epitome comes with East Asia Crisis- Thai Baht and S. Korea (explain what happened)3. China being influenced by USA (1994 Uruguay negotiations). Example of foreign nation threatening another one into joining the WTOIdea of Stiglitz is to recognize that globalization has been mismanaged and that there should be a better management of it. First steps in doing this is to accept the dangers of capital market liberalization and focus on looking at the long-term solutions for these problems rather than the short-term solutions. (DOES NOT GIVE CLEAR SOLUTION AND NOT ENOUGH) but point about making raising living standards, especially for the poor is fair but making globalization fairer is difficult to achieve (greed is always at the forefront)Body 2 talk about the global system that was established after WWII and connection between idea of stable capitalist economy and a just and secure political order JUDICIAL LEVELAnother system that has been tampered by global powers is the international judicial system, and in particular the International Criminal Court.at first, the establishment of this institution was “pure” but later on we have the entrance of outside opinions and influences that caused the system to start to rot.An author that we have studied that analyzes the judicial systema and its pros and cons is Kingsley Chiedu Moghalu in his book Global Justice, the Politics if War Crimes Trials Evidence of positive was the Nuremberg Trials (not perfect but justice was brought and new boundaries were set, explain more in depth) but later we have Tokyo trials where we have the extreme influence of the USA. Clearly seen by General Douglas taking control of the trials but more so explain more in depth. Another example of a failed tribunal is the ICTY trial of Misolvolich (he was right when he declared that the ICTY trials were just a disguise for NATO to enter the area and take advantage). ICTY other example of US trying to enter foreign governmentWestern hypocrisy especially looking at the bombing of Yugoslavia by Nato forces Moghalu is a pragmatic legalist and believes that some justice is still better than none and that is not enough USA in both economic and judicial system of the world put them countries in situations of crisisBody 3 – USA IN EVERYTHING CAUSED THEM TO THINK THEY OWN EVERYTHING illegal wars of aggression in the 21st Something that is common in both the downfall of the economic and judicial development is the fact that the USA has been present and has been a main actor in creating this situation of crisis.Statement: the only real victor that came out of WWII “unharmed” has been the USA and that is why, as a nation, they have achieved undoubtable power. We can see that on an economic level when we have the trial of Saddamn Hussein conducted by the USA (backstory of Iraq and analyze trials)Closing Statement: imperialism and the desire of more and more caused the world to arrive in a situation of standstill Conclusion: The solution for the disastrous global system, is to reorganize the world order. In the sense that we should start looking at the USA and start holding them accountable for the damages caused on the economic adn judicial levels and the illegal wars that they have benefited from.
