  • The Cleveland Clinic has been able to preserve its commitment to its mission while at the same time marketing a complex organization by maintainging integrity of the clinic brand and promoting a positive image of the brand. The clinic uses four different tiers to market four individual businesses.  Each tier maintains the same core but different  branches. The tiers offer services that are personalized to fit that business. Each tier has specific instructions on how they are to advertise and operate the business. The establishment of the Cleveland Clinic's with different tiers  does not cause the brand to be diluted.

We studied this week that age is one of the demographic factors that influence demand. Adults 46 and older are  noted to have more health issues, seek routine health care and have an increased number of hospital admissions.  An example of a demographic factor that is still very active is Covid-19. The admission rates have decreased but a lot of the admissions for Covid now are adults 46 years old and older.

The second demographic factor that influences demand is sex or gender. In the United States women are more likely to use medical care and get routine check ups. Women are not afraid or embarrased to go to their providers to discuss health issues. We learned that women most of the time are in charge of making sure that their family members make their necessary appointments. The example I have for this factor is that I have a son who is 28 years old. I still schedule his GI appointments when needed, give him reminders of the appointments and put his routine medications on automatic refill at Walgreens to make sure that he is notified before he completly runs out. It is a built in radar that works 24/7 for me with my family.

  • The third demographic factor that influences demand is ethnic backgrounds. We learned that in the United States the white population tends to visit their physicians more often than African American, Asian or the Hispanic population. African Americans are noted to use the emergency room more than any other ethnic group. As an African American, the example, we always weigh the options of whether our condition will get better over time before we seek medical care. If we wait to see if it will get better and it ends up getting worse we then go the the emergency room. We are always worried about  "big" medical bills. Even when we have health insurance we are more likely to forgo going to the doctor unless we are very ill. Let me say that this is my culture, my upbringing, and my village.
