Overview
This assignment requires you to address the following question: Should the Senate Filibuster Be Scrapped? To do this, you’ll need to read the following two articles that take opposite views on this issue and evaluate (compare and contrast) their arguments. Finally, you’ll need to develop your own argument in support of one of the positions and provide evidence from the materials covered backing up your argument.
To learn more about the Senate filibuster, I have attached the textbook. On chapter 7, pages 167-173, it talks about filibuster. Please look at that prior to writing the paper to get a background knowledge.
You should be able to compare and contrast the arguments presented in the two sources, make a clear argument in support of one of the positions, and back up your argument with evidence from the material studied. I will also take into consideration the completeness, parsimony (brevity,) and organization of your paper. The approximate length is 6-8 typed, double-spaced pages, in 12 point font. Must cite all sources by using the Turabian citation style (A Brief description about the Turabian style is on the attached below).
Suggested Outline: You must adhere to the standard college essay format containing an introduction, body, and conclusion.
Introduction: Briefly introduce the topic and show its relevance. Then, clearly present your thesis, your argument, in response to the topic question. 1 Suggested length: 1 page. Body: First you need to cover point by point the main arguments presented in the two articles and compare and contrast them. Second, you need to specifically outline the differences between the two positions. Third, and most important, you need to argue in favor of one of the two positions and support your argument with evidence from the material studied. The emphasis here is on the relevance and quality of the evidence you employ. Suggested length: 4-5 pages.
Conclusion: Finally, restate your argument/thesis, summarize your findings, and briefly show how these findings could help us understand this important but controversial aspect of the American system of government.
