Development

Sustainability can mean different things. Some people feel like sustainability comes financially. Others think it comes with success. Honestly, it may easily be both. I believe sustainability is important because it reflects how society views us. While we don't like to admit it, how others view us matters. Someone who struggled growing up and didn't have the finer things they always wished for, once older and able to provide for oneself, may feel a sense of accomplishment. They never felt like a failure, no, but now they're viewed differently. Their whole circle has evolved.

Historically, the UN SDGs are trying to resolve issues that have been a menace to society for centuries now, such as hunger, AIDS, and inequality. Sadly, it seems to be getting worse. Ideally the UN SDGs are trying to be implemented so that no country is left to starve or feel unworthy of growth, both economically and as a society. I believe the easiest SDG to achieve would be hunger. Let's be honest, we thrive here in the United States when it comes to farming and gardening. It would take us as a whole, sharing our resources amongst others for the hunger in other countries to end. Of course, not only does the US have to have this mindset to "lend a helping hand", but other counties as well. "No hunger, everyone should have safe nutritious and sufficient food".

Indeed, the SDG that would pose a greater effort to conclude would be, "Lower inequality within and amongst countries". There is always someone who wants to be in power, or who feel like their way of doing things is the correct way. Sometimes it may be, but at other times it may not. However, these are the troubles that we face when it comes to equality for all countries.

What is Sustainability

Sustainability is the ability to exist and develop without depleting natural resources for the future. Sustainability allows us to maintain balance between our environment and our economic growth. There are three categories for sustainability that can pave the way for a sustainable future. First, there is environmental sustainability. Environmental sustainability is known as the principle of maintaining ecological integrity and to ensure that Earth’s environmental systems stay balanced. Next, there is economic sustainability. Economic sustainability is the goal that allows humans to maintain independence and be able to get a job. Lastly, there is social sustainability. Social sustainability is the principle of ensuring that basic human needs are attainable by all and that there is enough resources available to the communities. Sustainability is important because it allows resources to remain in place so that one can be successful. Sustainability is also important because it sets the foundation so that one does not lack any resources.

Historically, the basis for the adoption of the UN SDGs focused on the basic needs approach. It focused on eliminating poverty such as no hunger. It focused on providing people with safe efficient food. It also focused on equal access to health care and equal access to education. Ideally, the basis for the adoption of the UN SDGs was to focus on sustainable and stable economic growth, to develop cities without damaging the environment and people and allow safe production and consumption of products. Another focus was to reduce climate change.

The easiest is to end hunger and achieve food security. Unless there is a drought, crops are being grown every day. The hardest would be to provide full and productive employment and decent work for all. Yes, the jobs can be provided but are the people willing to work? There are people who would rather sit at home all day or even stand on the side of the road. Even if standards were lowered allowing people without a GED or high school diploma to work there are some people who just refuse to do so.
