Overview
We will be covering the first ten amendments to the constitution, more formally known as the "Bill of Rights." This week you read about the First and Second. Outside of the Bill of Rights, the constitution has been amended seventeen other times, most recently in 1992. I want you to do a little research on ONE of those seventeen other amendments (Amendments XI - XXVII) and answer the following questions:
What amendment did you choose?
In your own words, what does the amendment do?
When was it voted on in congress, and when was it ratified by the states?
- What historical circumstances led to the need for this amendment?
Give a brief overview of any landmark Supreme Court cases that help interpret the amendment.
