Overview

Your proposal should be five pages maximum (of single-spaced text):

It needs to address the following:

1. What is your main research question?
2. Set out your case study of a defined policy ‘problem’ at the national, international or transnational level.
3. What are the main issue(s) it will address?
   1. Define why this specific policy problem is a major issue for society and the global community.
   2. Set out the proposals or solutions that have been advocated so far to address the problem.
   3. Explain why a solution to the problem has not been produced so far; i.e. what are the main challenges and obstacles to making progress?
   4. Outline your recommendations as to how policy actors should best address the policy problem in question.
4. What academic literature will it engage with?
5. What theoretical approaches will it utilise?
6. What case studies will it incorporate?
7. What sources will it consult?
8. Research Timeframe, i.e. what is your proposed schedule for completing the dissertation?
