Overview
So I want you to help with 2 things please read the instructions/guidance carefully and if you have any questions do not hesitate to ask.
1. EDIT RESEARCH PROPOSAL FINAL - Please edit the research proposal based on the feedback provided. The feedback comments are in red and comments underneath. The sections with red please edit making the necessary adjustments.
2. PRESENTATION -
All students are required to present an update on their project. The presentation should last an absolute maximum of 10 minutes; plan and practise your presentation to ensure you keep to time. You are encouraged to use visual aids as appropriate, e.g. a PowerPoint presentation. You must use slides as part of your presentation.
PLEASE REVIEW THE LECTURE SLIDES I HAVE ATTACHED FOR THE PRESENTATION ASSIGNMENT. THERE IS ALSO GUIDANCE ON THERE FOR/ABOUT THE SLIDES TOO.
I want you to help me write up my presentation for my dissertation. What needs to be said so almost as if it's a script following the criteria below. I want you to also make powerpoint slides to back it up and make reference to when you will say what on what slide. So you are doing a presentation with powerpoint slides. But make sure the powerpoint slides do not have too much text. My supervisor does not want his main attention on the powerpoint slides. It will be graded on what I am going to say so please write down the presentation for me backing it up with slides. Refer to when you would say what section on what slide. Hopefully that makes sense. I am going to do a video presentation with the powerpoint slides but I want you to help me with what needs to be said and the presentation itself.
This is an update of where I am with my dissertation and REMEMBER in my research proposal i said by November and December I would be (you can also check my research proposal for this): I said in my time plan I would be doing the following:
November: Submit proposal final, In-depth qualitative analysis, prepare to deliver presentation
December: Quantitative data collection and analysis, work on literature review.
So please in the presentation mention how you are up to date with the following and show this. E.g. by doing some in-depth qualitative analysis, quantitative data collection and analysis for the dissertation.
The content of the presentation should be as follows:
- A brief introduction to your research question.
- A brief overview of existing research on this topic and where your project fits in.
- A more detailed presentation of your methodology, i.e. HOW you are going to answer
your research question? - A very brief description of any preliminary findings so far (if you have any).
- Your supervisor will assess the presentation using SPIR’s generic research criteria but also the following prompts:
- Clarity: is the research question and the way it is to be addressed clearly communicated? Is the presentation easy to follow and understand? Or was the presentation garbled and/or rushed?
- Overall coherence: does the project contain all the necessary elements and do these fit together properly? Or is the proposed approach chaotic and scattergun?
- Placement into existing literature: does the presentation show awareness of the key literature on this topic? Does it clarify how the project fits in and contributes to the existing literature (e.g. how it engages with existing theories or debates)?
- Approach and Method: does the presentation identify a suitable methodology by which the research question will be answered? Is this suitably detailed and coherent, or vague and impressionistic? Is appropriate data chosen? Is the method feasible and realistic? NB this is a very important criterion, because a key purpose of the presentation is to assess whether you have settled on an appropriate method to conduct your research project. Therefore, you must devote sufficient time and effort to thinking about this in the weeks ahead of the presentation, and sufficient space in your presentation to discuss it.
- Use of Visual/Other Aids: are any visual (or other) aids used appropriately? Do they help support and add to the presentation, or are they an unhelpful distraction? Are they clear and readable? Is the amount of content per page reasonable?
- Audibility and Clarity of Speech: did the presenter speak clearly and audibly throughout, maintaining the engagement and interest of the audience? (Good!) Or did they mumble, speak to their slides or notes, read monotonously from a script or otherwise compromise the ability and interest of the audience to follow their talk? (Not good!)
