Political Science Question

Overview

Directions: The purpose of this assignment is for you to demonstrate your

knowledge of the required course material. Outside sources should not be used. The response to each question needs to be 2-3 well-developed paragraphs in length (250-350 words) and written essentially in your own words. However, at least two appropriate direct quotes from required course material must be integrated into each response. Finally, be sure to use ample supporting examples and evidence from the required course material. Please use the Chicago Style Manual for all in-text citations, references page, and other document formatting. The assignment will be graded using the associated rubric posted in Canvas. Use of AI: The use of AI chatbots (such as ChatGPT, Jasper, or Perplexity) is strictly prohibited for this assignment. Any attempt to use AI including generating ideas, paraphrasing, or creating any content will be considered a violation of Lynn University’s Academic Integrity policy and will be reported to the academic dean. The only exception is the use of Grammarly for basic grammar, syntax, and punctuation editing. Reminder: Your assignment will automatically be sent to Turnitin when you submit it in Canvas. Therefore, I highly recommend that you submit it a day or two early to determine if all material has been properly cited. This will provide time for you to correct any citation errors that may occur. Questions: 1. Individual & Collective Rights: Discuss the key points of Lam’s argument regarding the collective rights of self-determination and territoriality. Then, discuss the ways in which the situation in the “Masterpiece Society” Star Trek episode exemplifies Lam’s argument. Fully explain your response using details from both Lam’s article and the “Masterpiece Society” episode. 2. Universal Rights: Which three of the versions or interpretations of “universal” human rights discussed by Donnelly do you think are the most important or significant and why? Fully explain your response explicitly incorporating material from his article and specific examples.

3. Relative and Universal Rights:

Discuss Weston’s proposed solution for resolving the apparent conflict or tension between universal and relative rights. Be sure to include a detailed consideration of what he offers as the key to resolving this conflict. How might his ideas be applied to the “Justice” Star Trek episode? Fully explain your response with support from the Weston reading and video.
