Comparative Politics Discussions

Overview

Discussion One:

Pick 2 sections from Mike Caulfield's book to summarize & share with the class.

The book is available here (

https://pressbooks.pub/webliteracy and there are links to each section (sections are short).

Include graphics if they are helpful.

Discussion Two:

While the "Developed Democracy" is viewed in the West as the ultimate ideal of society, reaching that state is not only difficult to accomplish, it can also be very difficult to maintain.

What do you think will pose the biggest challenge to developed democracies over the coming years? What do you think will be some of the biggest opportunities for democracies to better themselves over the coming years?

Some areas you may look to touch on:

  • Demographic shifts
  • Intergovernmental systems
  • New technologies
  • Shifts in respect for democratic institutions
  • Welfare systems

Given the inherent political nature of this question, I will remind you all that civility is a requirement for this course. Responses must be respectful.
