Answer the question below as clearly and concisely as possible with a short essay not to exceed 1,000 words. Responses must be submitted via Blackboard as a Microsoft Word document, 12 pitch, Times New Roman Font, and double spaced. For this SA, students must have successfully completed all prior FAs and met a standard on each that demonstrated a clear mastery of the CLOs assessed. SAs are graded evaluations of multiple CLOs over several sessions for which a student must meet a standard that demonstrates a clear mastery of all the CLOs being evaluated. Further information on SAs is contained in paragraph 9.c of the NC&S LPA/TSDM syllabus. General guidance for written submissions/assessments is found in paragraph 10 and 12 of the NC&S LPA/TSDM syllabus.
SA-2 QUESTION:
Drawing on course preparation materials, concepts, and discussion board forums covered in IS-1 through IS-12, respond to the following question.
In their quest to achieve “the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation”, the People’s Republic of China (PRC) has steadily increased the capability and capacity of their instruments of national power over the last three decades and has been increasingly aggressive in applying them. The PRC has specifically sought to increase their relative power vis-à-vis the U.S. and its allies and partners through, among many other provocative activities, things like building and then militarizing islands in the South China Sea, intimidating states across the Indo-Pacific, engaging in border skirmishes with India, Vietnam and the Philippines, and several aggressive spying efforts against Australia as well as many research and corporate interests in the West.
Considering all current and forecasted strategic trends, as well as existing national-level strategic guidance covered in IS-1 through IS-12, discuss ways the U.S. could apply specific instruments of national power to deter China from further actions counter to U.S. interests. Additionally, discuss ways the U.S. could apply specific instruments of national power to compel China to act more in concert with other developed states, and in ways consistent with the rules based liberal international order.
