Overview
This research paper is an extension of the research précis I wrote for my midterm on the incident in 2023 where China launched balloons into Canadian and U.S. airspace. The entire paper should be between 15 and 20 pages long. The original précis may be used for the first 8 pages of this research paper.
Find a case study that happened more than 10 years ago (anytime before 2014) where a country exemplified the same hypothesis I confirmed should be used to explain the 2023 balloon situation. Explain how we know this to be true. Then go on to explain how the situations are similar and how the sub-events linked to this new case study also exemplify the hypothesis. Furthermore, explain why the other hypothesis I discussed in the précis (H1) isn't as applicable as the one I decided was correct in relation to the new case study. The theory I hypothesized was correct is that China is testing how the U.S. responds as part of a rational strategy to calculate the risk of war—salami tactics (attempting to take many small incremental steps at increasing power that are too small to retaliate against)

You will use my 8 pages of content from my précis (document titled "PS137A Precis") but will rewrite and replace my introduction from my précis with a new introduction that discusses the new case study that is being implemented into the essay. Remove the old conclusion from the précis and write a new one to be placed at the end of the research paper, which addresses both case studies and the hypothesis. Make sure the new section includes at least 3 new valid academic sources I haven't yet used.
Make sure the essay, footings, and citations are properly formatted according to the instructions document; it should also align with the format used in the précis. The entire paper should be more than 15 pages minimum.

Use the instructions document, example outline, and example document as references for what you should be doing, but don't steal any actual content from there; just use them as references for how my essay and outline should look and work. The example outline lays out clearly what to do and where to do it; the stuff you'll be writing/adding is written in red text on the outline so you know what kind of things you need to add/change to the précis and where it belongs in the paper. Along with the original Precis PDF, which you will need to use for the first 8 pages of this research paper, I also included a copy of my original outline I used for my precis, which might be helpful for you to look at/reffer to.
